Michel Barnier named as new Arsenal boss

We wanted a Frenchman who could run rings round English opposition, say Arsenal

Arsenal have announced that Michel Barnier, currently the EU’s Brexit negotiator, will replace Arsene Wenger as manager in the summer.

Wenger is stepping down after 22 years at Arsenal, though most of the memorable ones were some time ago.

Barnier, who has no top flight football experience, or much interest in the sport, is a surprise replacement at the Emirates.

However, the club said that their latest cerebral Frenchman was the perfect choice for credibility in Europe:

“Look, he may be more interested in cheese and the technical details of customs unions, but he’s shown he can run rings round any English opposition.”
